In the architectural sense, a grid is a framework of reference lines through which dimensions of major structural components of the building are constructed. A grid allows for sensible extension of the architecture and internal transformation through it's flexibility. A grid system is not only used for harmonious purposes but also as a tool for expressing design rules within a layout.
